The Life of Kentigern (Mungo)
Kentigern was almost not born. A child conceived due to the rape of his mother Tannoc, his fate lay in what would happen to his mother. When Tannoc’s father, the local chieftain, found out she was pregnant by rape, and therefore disgraced, he had her thrown off a cliff, an alternative punishment to stoning. But mother and baby survived the fall, so her father ordered his soldiers to put Tannoc in a small boat with no oars, no rudder and no sail, and push her out into the North Sea to starve or drown.
After the boat had floated on the open sea for a time, the tides brought it safely to the shores at Culross, where Tannoc was taken in by the monks. When the child was born, Tannoc named him Kentigern, which means ‘Big chief’, possibly a sarcastic slight on her father and his attempts to kill them both. The head monk at Culross, however, gave him the affectionate nickname Mungo, which means literally ‘my dog’ but may also be understood as ‘my beloved’.
When Kentigern was small, he was out with some boys when a stone thrown by one of them hit a robin on the head and knocked it to the ground. Kentigern held the robin in his hand and prayed for its recovery. Instantly the bird jumped up and flew off. The robin is still pictured in the coat of arms of the city of Glasgow, which Kentigern is reputed to have founded.
Later in life, Kentigern founded many monasteries and changed many people’s lives. One of the stories from Kentigern’s life is related to part of the Arthurian legend. One day in the forests of Celidon, near Clyde, Kentigern was praying when a half-naked, crazed man came running towards him. Unfazed, Kentigern spoke calmly with the man and found out that he was in the woods as a self-punishment for causing a battle in which many people had lost their lives. He had come to believe in the Christian God and that his punishment was God’s will.
The man, named Lailoken (pronounced ‘Ly-lo-kin’), also known as Merlin, was blessed by Kentigern. His temperament instantly calmed, and although he stayed in the forest for some time, prophesying (as he was a seer), he became more and more reconciled with God and at peace within himself. At last he was able to reconnect with society in his previous position. In remembrance of this legend, a stained-glass window of Kentigern with Merlin can be found in Stobo Kirk, Peeblesshire, Scotland.
Before his death, Kentigern met with Columba, and the two powerful men of God shared time with God together.
Spend a few moments simply resting. Breathe gently and slowly. Become aware of the constant presence of God which envelops you and permeates you.
Kentigern seemed to have the hand of God upon him from before he was born. Throughout his life, he followed the touch and movement of this hand and shared it with everyone, from half-crazed wild men in the woods to holy monks who led significant monastic centres and taught many people.

May you be a friend to the earth and to those who are outcast within it, speaking the calm love of God into their lives.
May you walk the path that God lays before you and be a great influence in the world for the good of God’s kingdom.

Kentigern’s life is archetypal resonance of the protected remnant. Von Glasgow über Luxeuil und St. Gall nach Bregenz und Reichenau — die Ketten der keltischen Mission als Vorbild für heutige Nodes.
Die Begegnung mit Merlin (Lailoken) — Kentigerns Segen des Wilden
Im Wald von Celidon (bei Clyde) kam der halbnackte, wahnsinnige Seher Lailoken (historischer Kern der Merlin-Legende) zu Kentigern. Er hatte eine Schlacht verursacht, in der viele starben, und bestrafte sich selbst im Wald. Kentigern blieb ruhig, sprach mit ihm und segnete ihn. Lailoken wurde sofort ruhiger, blieb noch eine Zeit lang als Prophet im Wald, wurde aber zunehmend mit Gott versöhnt und kehrte in die Gesellschaft zurück.
Das ist kein Zufall: Der Mann, der selbst als ungeborenes Kind vor dem Tod durch Vergewaltigung und Absetzung der Mutter gerettet wurde, segnet den „wilden Mann“. Die Hand Gottes auf dem Überlebenden wird zur Hand, die den Ausgestoßenen beruhigt.
St. Columbanus (Columban) und die Hiberno-Schottische Mission
Fast zeitgleich (543–615) verließ der Ire Columbanus mit zwölf Gefährten (darunter Gallus) Bangor und zog auf den Kontinent. Er gründete Luxeuil (Frankreich), predigte bei den Alemannen in Bregenz (heutiges Vorarlberg/Österreich-Schweiz-Grenze) und gründete schließlich Bobbio (Italien).
Sein Gefährte Gallus blieb in der Schweiz zurück und legte den Grundstein für die Abtei St. Gallen — eines der wichtigsten frühmittelalterlichen Zentren des Wissens und der Mission in Mitteleuropa. Die Abtei St. Gallen, Reichenau (Bodensee) und frühe irische Einflüsse in Süddeutschland (Schottenklöster) wurden zu echten Nodes: dezentrale, disziplinierte, schützende Gemeinschaften inmitten des Zusammenbruchs nach der Völkerwanderung.
Kentigern schützte und segnete den Wilden im Norden. Columbanus und Gallus exportierten das Modell nach Süden: strenge Regel, private Beichte, Mission unter „Barbaren“, Gründung von Klöstern als Keimzellen neuer Ordnung.
Heutige Kirche und Gesellschaft in Deutschland — Der „Wilde Mann“ und die systematische Vergewaltigung
Wie Tannoc, die Mutter Kentigerns: Vergewaltigt, von der eigenen Sippe zum Tod verurteilt (Absturz von der Klippe, dann Boot ohne Ruder in die Nordsee). Nur Gottes Hand rettete Mutter und Kind.
Heute erleben wir in Deutschland und Europa eine systematische, gruppenbasierte sexuelle Ausbeutung und Vergewaltigung einheimischer (weißer) Mädchen und Frauen durch organisierte Banden — oft aus bestimmten Migrationshintergründen (Nordafrika, Naher Osten, Afghanistan, Pakistan-ähnliche Strukturen). Fälle wie Köln 2015/16, zahlreiche Gruppenvergewaltigungen in Schwimmbädern, Parks und durch „grooming gangs“ in mehreren Städten sind dokumentiert. Die offizielle Kriminalstatistik (BKA) und verschiedene Untersuchungen zeigen überproportionale Beteiligung nicht-einheimischer Tätergruppen bei bestimmten Formen schwerer Sexualdelikte. Viele Opfer sind einheimische Minderjährige. Die Taten werden oft bagatellisiert, vertuscht oder als „Einzelfälle“ behandelt — genau wie die Sippe Tannocs das Verbrechen decken wollte.
Parallel: Masseneinwanderung, demografischer Niedergang der einheimischen Bevölkerung (Geburtenrate weit unter Reproduktionsniveau), Parallelgesellschaften, Vertrauensverlust in Staat und Kirchen. Die AfD ist als politische Kraft stark gestiegen (besonders im Osten, bundesweit zweistellig bis führend in manchen Umfragen 2025/26). Sie wird von vielen als Stimme der „Wilden“ gesehen — derer, die den Verrat an den Schwachen (Mädchen, Frauen, kulturelle Identität) nicht mehr ertragen.
Die Kirche in Deutschland (evangelisch wie katholisch) hat in weiten Teilen versagt, die Rolle Kentigerns oder Columbans zu spielen. Statt prophetisch zu schützen und Wahrheit zu sagen, hat sie oft mit den Mächtigen paktiert oder geschwiegen. Das Ergebnis: Leere Kirchen, Vertrauensverlust, und eine wachsende Sehnsucht nach klaren Nodes von Ordnung und Schutz.

Die AfD ist nicht die Krankheit — sie ist ein Symptom des „wilden Mannes“ Lailoken: Menschen, die verraten wurden, die ihre Töchter und Schwestern nicht mehr beschützt sehen, die ihre Kultur und Identität erodieren sehen. Kentigern hat nicht geschimpft, sondern gesegnet und zur Ruhe gebracht — bei gleichzeitiger klarer Ordnung.
Columbanus und Gallus haben nicht gewartet, bis die alten Strukturen repariert sind. Sie sind gegangen und haben neue Nodes gegründet: Orte, an denen die Wahrheit gelehrt, die Schwachen geschützt und eine neue Generation ausgebildet wurde.
Für die heutige Kirche in Deutschland: Entweder sie wird wieder Kentigern und Columbanus — kleine, disziplinierte, mutige Nodes, die die Hand Gottes auf die Verwundeten legen (auch auf die einheimischen Opfer systematischer Gruppengewalt) und die „Wilden“ mit Wahrheit und Gnade ansprechen — oder sie stirbt aus.
Die monastischen Nodes in Süddeutschland, der Schweiz und Österreich können wieder lebendig werden: als Hausklöster, regenerative Gemeinschaften, Orte der Bewahrung und des Sendens. Sie können genau das tun, was die alten Klöster taten: inmitten des Chaos Ordnung, Wahrheit und Hoffnung pflanzen.
